LAN stands for local area network
WAN stands for wide area network
It covers  a small geographical area
It covers a large geographical area
Computers and devices are physically connected
Computers and devices may or may not be physically connected
Used to share files & other resources as printer scanner
Used to share information as a file through emails
Ethernet card is used in LAN
Modem is used in WAN
Data transmission speed is high as 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps
Data transmission speed is slow as 56 Kbps to 50 Mbps
It is easy to configure
It is difficult to configure
LAN is more secure network
WAN is less secure network
It is less costly
It is more costly
Fewer transmission errors occurs
More transmission error occurs
Computer lab in a college is an example of LAN
Internet is an example of  WAN
